Howard Myers
Howard was born and grew up in Canterbury, England.  He left school at the
age of 16; (yes you can do that there and leave with a full education) and
joined the fire service entering a residential academy for two years.  On
completion, became a career fire fighter and spent time in service in Central
and East London, the busiest areas for fire fighting. During a career spanning
23 years, he achieved the rank of Divisional Officer (Battalion Chief)
supervising 10 fire stations and 350 fire fighters and included fire prevention
inspections, public relations, investigations, supervising major fires,
Weapons of Mass Destruction and Hazmat incidents.

He was awarded a Queen’s Commendation, Chief Fire Officer’s
Commendation for Bravery and the Queen’s Fire Brigade Long Service and
Good Conduct medal.

On leaving the fire service joined a major leisure company, including the
International Hilton Hotel group to provide fire prevention and health & safety
advice and support in the UK, Europe and China.

In December 1999 he relocated to Florida where he had his own business.
The call of the fire service was too great so he returned to the Florida Fire
College and while there he was appointed Fire Marshal in the city of Port
Orange.

He has spent the last nine years as a fire & explosion investigator in the
private sector.  During that period he has conducted investigations in the
states of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama,
Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, and Puerto Rico.  He has also
been successful as an expert witness in numerous depositions. Howard is

William “Bill” Commerford
Bill began his association with emergency services at the age of sixteen as a
fire cadet. After a thirteen year stint in the military, which included three
years in combat. Upon his discharge he joined a volunteer fire department in
Southern Ohio. Seizing the opportunity to attend paramedic training, he
completed four years of paramedic education and was the 79th paramedic
certified in America. He is a former Red Cross, Basic and Advanced First Aid
as well as CPR instructor. Bill saw emergency services action at the site of
the Xenia Tornado where there were over sixteen hundred injuries, and thirty
three fatalities.
Bill saved the life of a police officer who sustained chest trauma in the form
of a gunshot wound in the chest. On two other occasions, he performed
successfully the Heimlich Maneuver on choking victims. Bill also successfully
performed a cricoidectomy at the scene of a traumatic automobile accident
on Interstate 75.

Re-entering the military, (the National Guard) he was assigned as the Nuclear,
Biological & Chemical training NCO of an Artillery Battalion for the next ten
years. Simultaneously Bill attended the Vermont State Police Academy and
served as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst on a federal task force attached to
the United States Attorneys Office in Boston, MA. Bill retired from both the
military and law enforcement in 1999.

In 1995, after the Tokyo Subway attack, Bill recognized how unprepared the
US civilian emergency response community was to respond to any form of
“NBC” (now called CBRNE) attack in the US. He therefore began developing a
program of instruction to include all facets of the emergency response
community.

The program offered by Shield Training Company is a comprehensive
program of instruction addressing the needs of Security Officers and First
Responders, i.e. Fire & EMS as well as law enforcement officers. The
program of instruction may tailored to any organization where there are large
numbers of employees or attendees such as Hotels and convention centers.

Our program of instruction consists of over 5000 PowerPoint presentation
slides supported by VHS and DVD covering all facets of response to include
Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism. Since the program, is modularized, the
program of instruction offered by Shield Training Company can be easily
tailored to meets the needs of the individual client.

For a demonstration of how Shield training Company can assist you in your
training requirements, please contact Kathy Pelletier at Shield Training
Company, telephone number 407-870-8003.

Bill has received numerous military awards and had been recognized by the
Bureau of Justice, Department of Immigration and Naturalization and the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms for his contribution to the
investigation of Asian Organized Crime Organizations.
